Website Reviewed: Neuro-Vision.us Elegant Nails – Stop Nail Biting Program
I’ve had a problem with nail biting since I was a young kid. It was not something that I was comfortable talking about. However, there were some times when I didn’t have a choice. Every now and then someone would notice my unsightly nails or worse yet, catch me in the act of actually biting them and make some sort of embarrassing comment.
I’ve tried some of the off-the-shelf remedies. You know, like the bitter stuff that you paint on your nails, or wearing gloves. But I had very little success with these. I never gave hypnosis a second thought until I was asked to review a self-hypnosis program developed by Neuro-VISION, a company founded by Alan B. Densky, CH.
Densky is a noted certified hypnotherapist and Neuro-Linguistic Programmer (NLP) who has been in practice since 1978. Neuro-VISION’s literature states that he developed a video hypnosis technology that is so effective that it was awarded a US Patent to protect it. It goes on to say that Densky has helped over 10,000 clients in one-on-one therapy sessions, so his credentials are impressive.
I received the program the first week of February and had set aside time each day to listen to the sessions. It consists of 7 audio hypnosis and NLP sessions that Densky compressed down to 2 CDs. This made it more affordable and, as I came to learn, easier to navigate through each session. The program is called “Elegant Nails!” and I must say it could have been given a better name, as it seems a little too feminine for my tastes.
I should also disclose that I was a little nervous about using any kind of hypnosis as my only point of reference was a stage show I saw where it seemed that people were made to do stupid and embarrassing things while hypnotized. I learned later that my conception of hypnosis was wrong and actually warped, and that nobody can be made to do anything that they don’t really want to do.
During the first session Alan Densky introduced himself and prepared me for what I was about to learn and experience. He explained the various therapeutic techniques that he would use, and how I could obtain the best results by having realistic expectations and forgetting any preconceived ideas I had concerning hypnosis.
He also discussed the unconscious motivations that caused me to bite my nails, which I thought was oversimplified, but came to find out just how profound a statement it was.
In Session 2 Densky utilized what he described as “gentle methods” to guide me into a deep state of relaxation and hypnosis. He then used post hypnotic suggestions to eliminate stress, as well as suggestions that are designed to make me become aware of when I am about to put my fingers in my mouth and bite my nails.
In reality, I now find myself to be more relaxed overall, and this feeling of tranquility has eliminated much of the compulsion to seek peace and relaxation by putting my fingers into my mouth. And where I previously bit my nails without even realizing that I was doing it, now I’m aware of the times that I am about to bite my nails, before I actually start to do so. This awareness has given me the ability to decide to not bite my nails. And the feeling of peace has given me the ability to carry through with that decision.

So far, I had learned some very interesting things, but it wasn’t until Session 3 that I began learning some NLP techniques that I could use to “flip” things around in my unconscious. This was so that the thoughts used to trigger the urge to bite my nails could actually eliminate that urge. Simple, yet powerful!
In the 4th Session, Densky utilized process instructions, which are instructions to the unconscious to retrieve lessons that have been learned at previous times in my life, and to use those learning experiences as resources for resolving the current issues in my life. This would, in turn, help me to relax even more.
Densky elaborated on another very powerful Neuro-Linguistic Programming technique in Session 5. In this session he taught me how to use NLP visualizations to train my unconscious to automatically eliminate disturbing thoughts and feelings of anxiety, stress and depression. I soon discovered that this would relieve the stress and compulsion to bite my nails.
I must admit that I was thinking about stopping the program after the fifth session. I rationalized that I was doing so well that my nails were starting to grow out, which I haven’t experienced for many years. It would have been easy to finish my writing assignment and no one would be the wiser because as far as I was concerned, the Elegant Nails! program had worked as advertised.
Well, I decided to finish the program and I’m glad I did because there was much more to learn in the 6th and 7th Session.
Densky brought out the big guns in Session 6 explaining how Ericksonian Hypnotic Metaphors work, He used these metaphors to create and deepen my hypnotic state to eliminate urges and compulsions so that the desire to bite my nails would be vaporized!
And you want to know something? IT WORKS!!! I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to see my nails grow out and to know that I don’t have to bury my hands in my pockets every time I am in public.
Session 7 wrapped things up very nicely by teaching me how to utilize everything I had learned without listening to the CDs. Densky emphasized that I now had the tools to be able to practice the techniques I learned anytime and anywhere. I felt that he gave me an “arsenal” capable of keeping my nails out of my mouth on a permanent basis.
I still think that Densky could have come up with a name better than Elegant Nails! However I doubt he could have done much better in developing a proven success formula for those of us that suffer from compulsive nail biting.
